William Allcock
Biography
William (Bill) E. Allcock has more than 20 years of industry experience in software engineering. He joined the Distributed Systems Laboratory at Argonne in 2000 where he developed technology required for computational grids and served as a senior member. He was a driving force behind the Globus project. Allcock served as the team lead on the development of the open source GridFTP software system and liaison on many international grid projects, including the European Data Grid and the prestigious Earth System Grid for which he is credited with helping to formulate new approaches for a national data access protocol. In August 2006, Allcock joined the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF) as Senior Storage Engineer, High Performance Computing, holding overall responsibility for all I/O and storage-related activities, as well as integration of the systems software stack for the ALCF.
