Maria (Lupe) did her undergraduate studies in Physics at Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (University of the Valley of Guatemala). After a year doing neutrino experimental research at Fermi National Lab she pursued her PhD at Stony Brook University. There she became part of the Castro development team, while her interests in computational fluid dynamics and high performance computing grew. For her thesis she worked on the MHD implementation in Castro resulting in studies of MHD simulations of White Dwarf Mergers. She is currently starting a new position as Research Software Engineer at the Rosseland Centre for Solar Physics at the University of Oslo.
