Abdullah Ahmad is a second year medical student at the University of Sheffield. Being inspired by recent developments in personalised medicine, de-extinction and synthetic biology, he developed an interest in genetics as a field. At Sheffield, medical students get the opportunity to go on a research attachment which is how he made his first foray into the field with this project, where he was introduced to metagenomics. Having been given a taste of what research can offer, Abdullah is excited and eager to learn more.
