Biography
Masaki Satoh is a professor at Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, the University of Tokyo. He received his Ph.D. in Geophysics at the University of Tokyo in 1993. He studies global atmospheric circulations and started development of the Non-hydrostatic Icosahedral Atmospheric Model since 2000. He has been working with Dr. Hisashi Yashiro on a project using the Fugaku supercomputer since 2020. He is a director of the Meteorological Society of Japan (MSJ) and has been a Chief Editor of Journal of the Meteorological Society of Japan since 2010. He is a Section President of Asia Oceania Geosciences Union and is a Lead Author of IPCC AR6 Working Group I. He received the MSJ award in 2007 and a Science and Technology award of the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s commendation in 2016. He is an author of “Atmospheric Circulation Dynamics and General Circulation Models” (Springer-PRAXIS).
