SUMMARY:Interactivity, Engagement and Community Building in Online HPC Edu
 cation and Training
DESCRIPTION:State of the Practice Talk\n\nInteractivity, Engagement and Co
mmunity Building in Online HPC Education and Training\n\nMullen, Filinger,
Backhaus, Chimeh\n\nA significant portion of high-performance computing (
HPC) education and training is centered on short courses, workshops and ha
ckathons. While there is a substantial amount of content and documentatio
n online, there are relatively few open access virtual courses. As a resul
t of the shutdowns associated with COVID19, many HPC educators are scrambl
ing to transition their events online. This paper highlights the key chara
cteristics of Virtual Learning Environments (VLE), presenting challenges w
hen it comes to interactivity, networking and community building, as well
as focusing on primary advantages such as having events with no borders. F
inally, we present effective strategies for transitioning to VLEs to maxim
ize the experience.\n\nTag: Best Practices, HPC Training and Education\n\n
