SUMMARY:Advanced Quantum Testbed Project Scientist
DESCRIPTION:Job Posting\n\nAdvanced Quantum Testbed Project Scientist\n\n\
 n\nAdvanced Quantum Testbed Project Scientist - 91459\nOrganization: AC-Co
mputing\n\nBerkeley Lab’s Computational Research Division (CRD) has an Adv
anced Quantum Testbed Research Scientist position to join its Advanced Qua
ntum Testbed (AQT) effort.\n\nThe AQT program is focused on constructing,
enhancing, operating, and maintaining an open, fully accessible gate-based
quantum computer. Our technology platform is based on superconducting qu
antum circuit processors, and we aim to generate the detailed experimental
findings needed to resolve foundational questions in quantum information
science, and to guide near-term hardware and algorithm co-design.\n\nWhat
You Will Do:\n• Specialized research in conception and execution of quantu
m algorithms on superconducting hardware.\n• Design and conduct state-of-t
he-art experiments such as superconducting quantum processors and/or theor
y in quantum information science.\n• Troubleshoot noise processes on quant
um hardware and design and implement mitigation strategies.\n• Deploy high
-speed, low-latency data acquisition hardware.\n• Validate, analyze, and i
nterpret experimental data.\n• Develop algorithms for near-term hardware b
ased on critical evaluation of the literature, and original thinking.\n• D
esign quantum simulations for physics, chemistry, and computer science.\n•
Design, fabricate & test high-speed cryogenic and room temperature classi
cal control electronics.\n• Firmware development & programing tools to int
erface with FPGA-based electronics.\n• Quantum verification and validation
.\n• Shallow circuit algorithm development and optimization.\n\nAdditional
Responsibilities as needed:\n• Fabricate, characterize, and test supercon
ducting circuits.\n• Supervise group post-doctoral candidates and graduate
students.\n\nWhat is Required:\n• Ph.D. degree in physics, applied physic
s, electrical engineering, or a related field. \nFive or more years releva
nt experience.\n• Knowledge of quantum information science related to one
or more of the responsibilities/research areas listed above.\n• Independen
tly plan and complete projects.\n• Relevant publication record and demonst
ration of proficient written and oral presentation of scientific results.\
n• Ability to direct the work of technical support staff or students.\n\nD
esired Qualifications:\n• Ability to prepare periodic updates (written and
oral) for internal and external reviews or reports.\n• Experience operati
ng and maintaining a dilution refrigerator.\n• Experience using Python bas
ed programming tools.\n\nNotes:\n• This is a full-time 1 year, term appoin
tment that may be renewed to a maximum of five years.\n• This position may
be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to de
termine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements o
f the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqual
ify an applicant from being considered for employment.\n• Work will be pri
marily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berk
eley, CA.\n\nHow To Apply\nApply directly online at http://50.73.55.13/cou
nter.php?id=189783 and follow the on-line instructions to complete the app
lication process.\n\nEqual Employment Opportunity: Berkeley Lab is an Equa
l Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will r
eceive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religio
n, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability,
age, or protected veteran status. Berkeley Lab is in compliance with the P
ay Transparency Nondiscrimination Provision under 41 CFR 60-1.4. Click he
re (https://www.dol.gov/agencies/ofccp/posters) to view the poster and sup
plement: "Equal Employment Opportunity is the Law."\n\nLawrence Berkeley N
ational Laboratory encourages applications from women, minorities, veteran
s, and other underrepresented groups presently considering scientific rese
arch careers.\n\nRegistration Category: Tech Program Reg Pass, Workshop Re
g Pass, Tutorial Reg Pass, Exhibits Reg Pass
