SUMMARY:Postdoctoral Appointee –Operations within the Advanced Integration
  Group
DESCRIPTION:Job Posting\n\nPostdoctoral Appointee –Operations within the A
dvanced Integration Group\n\n\n\nPosition Description:	\nThe Argonne Leade
rship Computing Facility’s (ALCF) mission is to accelerate major scientifi
c discoveries and engineering breakthroughs for humanity by designing and
providing world-leading computing facilities in partnership with the compu
tational science community. We help researchers solve some of the world’s
largest and most complex problems with our unique combination of supercomp
uting resources and computational science expertise. \n\nThe Operations Gr
oup within the ALCF supports the mission of our science users by maintaini
ng stable and performant systems at all levels, including hardware, networ
king, and software. The ALCF seeks candidates for multiple aspects of res
earch in the context of operations and performance, including the followin
g areas:\n\nScheduling, including smarter scheduling of data and compute r
esources, and mixed simulation/MPI and AI workloads.\nScalable event sourc
ing and microservice/event-based processing systems as a basis for a massi
vely scalable HPC Job Scheduler.\nDisaggregated memory, with particular in
terest in the impact and mitigation of increased latency of memory access
due to remote memory in HPC applications.\nKubernetes, especially as integ
rated into HPC systems\nScheduling APIs and cross-compatibility between HP
 C systems.\n\nPosition Requirements:	\nRecent PhD in related field\nCompr
ehensive knowledge in C/C++ programming under Unix/Linux.\nComprehensive k
nowledge in Python programming under Unix/Linux\nComprehensive knowledge i
 n System Programming\nConsiderable knowledge of parallel algorithms, I/O a
rchitectures, performance evaluation and tuning.\nConsiderable expertise i
n parallel programming, multicore systems, threading, and scientific appli
cation codes.\nConsiderable software development skills, written, and comm
unication skills.\nGood collaborative skills, including the ability to wor
k well with other divisions, laboratories, and universities.\nGood self-mo
tivation to get involved and participate in the project team`s research, a
nd balance that against intense code development.\nCandidate should have t
he ability to create, maintain, and support high-quality software.\nKnowle
dge of Scala / Akka or other functional language / actor system a plus\nAb
ility to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity,
and Teamwork.\n\nRegistration Category: Tech Program Reg Pass, Workshop Re
g Pass, Tutorial Reg Pass, Exhibits Reg Pass
