 nWe are seeking a Group Leader for HPC Clusters in the National Center for
  Computational Sciences (NCCS). Selection will be based on qualifications,
  relevant experience, skills, and education. NCCS Provides state-of-the-ar
 t computational and data science infrastructure coupled with dedicated tec
 hnical and scientific professionals tackling large-scale problems across a
  broad range of scientific domains for accelerating scientific discovery a
 nd engineering advances. NCCS hosts the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Fac
 ility, one of DOE’s National User Facilities.\n\n\n\nPurpose\n\nProvide b
 oth technical and non-technical leadership to a group of between 6-10 Linu
 x Systems Engineers that strategically advances technical professional sub
 ject matter expertise for a variety of technical projects, programs or ope
 rations consistent with ORNL’s aspiration to be the world’s premier R&D in
 stitution and ORNL’s science culture.\n\n\n\nThe Technical Group Leader o
 rchestrates and oversees a group of peers with the primary goal of pursuin
 g global leadership in their field, nurtures ORNL’s culture among group me
 mbers, and continues to build and scale up individual excellence and impac
 t. The Technical Group Leader reports to and works closely with the Sectio
 n Head to implement the group’s technical vision; works closely with group
  members to identify areas for growth, set/establish performance-related g
 oals, address performance-related deficiencies, and provide opportunities 
 to further enable their career advancement; establishes capabilities that 
 enable programs to excel at the forefront of technical professional expert
 ise; works to solve technical challenges for science, engineering, or tech
 nical projects and functions; sets, implements, and models standards for p
 erformance of work consistent with Environment, Safety, Security, Health, 
 and Quality (ESH&Q) requirements and business rules; and ensures a diverse
  and inclusive work environment where every employee feels safe, heard, an
 d appreciated—a workplace that sets an example for the broader community.\
 n\n\n\nTechnical\n\nTechnical professionals are recognized leaders in the
 ir area by providing subject matter expertise for a variety of technical p
 rojects, programs, or operations. Solves technical challenges for science,
  engineering, operations or projects.\n\n\n\nThe Group Leader will guide 
 the the HPC Clusters Group in its responsibility for the day-to-day admini
 stration and support of the NCCS/OLCF capacity computing needs within NCCS
  (for both the OLCF and other programs/initiatives such as CADES). Activit
 ies include program and project-related requirements gathering, system arc
 hitecture and procurement efforts, along with the subsequent installation 
 and deployment, acceptance and performance testing, upgrades, problem diag
 nosis and troubleshooting, etc.\n\n\n\nMajor Duties/Responsibilities: \n\
 n \n\nLeadership\n\nDevelop a vision and implement a cohesive group strate
 gy to ensure the success of new and ongoing technical projects to position
  the group for future success.\nDevelop and implement plans to exploit new
  opportunities and/or expand existing efforts.\nAssist staff in setting pe
 rformance goals consistent with the group’s strategy and members’ long-ter
 m career goals. Provide feedback, coaching, and mentoring to individual gr
 oup members in an effort to address performance or behavioral issues in a 
 timely manner.\nWork to build consensus around best-practice technical sol
 utions, both within the group and in cross-cutting projects within the NCC
 S, and assist in associated conflict resolution.\nConduct annual Group Hea
 lth Assessments, where performance among group members is evaluated and co
 mpared to peers in their respective fields, and overall group health and p
 erformance is evaluated against pre-established metrics\nProvide relevant 
 input to assist the Technical Section Head with staff development while pr
 oviding direct and impactful guidance to staff on regular basis.\nAttract 
 a quality, diverse pool of top candidates and hire staff members who are c
 ommitted to world-class technology and aspire to be the best in their fiel
 d.\nLead by example by exercising the principles in ORNL’s “Research Code 
 of Conduct” as a guide for proposing, performing, and communicating resear
 ch.\nCoach and mentor staff regarding Battelle’s “Safe Conduct of Research
 ” principles\nLead ESH&Q by example and ensure all work is carried out saf
 ely, securely, and in compliance with ORNL policies, standards, and proced
 ures.\nExemplify a commitment to “One ORNL” by modeling lab expectations f
 or excellence in research, operations, and community engagement, and by wo
 rking cooperatively to leverage capabilities across the lab.\n\n\nService
 \n\nServe as immediate supervisor for staff members in group.\nEncourage s

 s, and programs.\nAdvance the reputation of the group members and standing

 as proposals, publications, and artifacts to ensure high quality and consi
 stency with ORNL standards.\nBuild strong teams across ORNL.\nConnect staf
 f to your network and professional societies.\nHold regular technical grou
 p meetings and be visible in the labs and workplace.\nHold regular 1-on-1 
 meetings and discussions with individual staff members to discuss project 
 tasks, status, obstacles, and needs.\nAssume front-line responsibility for
  safety in the group’s laboratory; mentor and empower the Laboratory Space
  Managers to create a strong safety culture.\nEffectively communicate the 
 importance of protecting proprietary or sensitive information and complyin
 g with ORNL security, cybersecurity policies and guidelines.\n\n\nAccount
 abilities:\n\nTo group staff, for the quality and safety of their work env
 ironment and opportunity for professional growth.\nTo R&D section head, fo

 uires a Ph.D. with a minimum of 4 years relevant experiences, a M.S. with 
 a minimum of 7 years experiences, a B.S. with 8 years relevant experiences
 , or significant relevant experiences.\nQualified candidates should have d
 emonstrated experience in leading technical teams\nOther qualifications ar
 e section specific\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\nQualified candidates
  should have demonstrated management experience\nHistory of engagement wit
 h Department of Energy and national laboratory complex, particularly leade
 rship class computing\nExceptional communication, planning, collaboration,
  and customer service skills.\n\n\nSpecial Requirements:\n\n\n\nThis pos
 ition requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Dep
 artment of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (
 WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-pl
 acement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing prog
