DESCRIPTION:Job Posting\n\nStorage Systems Administrator\n\n\n\nThe Comput
 ational Science Center at NREL is currently seeking a Systems Administrato
 r to work in our Storage Technologies team. In this role, the incumbent wi
 ll install, configure, and support storage-related products (hardware and 
 software) and services in the Center's data center. This Systems Administr
 ator / Storage Engineer will focus primarily on storage engineering of mul
 tiple data-intensive activities that utilize a variety of storage strategi
 es including object storage, block storage, and distributed file systems u
 sing high speed interconnects. There is a research component to determine 
 optimal hardware and software configurations in addition to keeping abreas
 t of new technologies and techniques for storage services.\n\nJob Duties:\
 n\nImplement, configure, and maintain specialized storage solutions and en
 vironments.\nMaintain documentation on system capabilities, storage enviro
 nments, equipment, and procedures for use by other team members.\nPerform 
 storage administration of data-intensive activities including:\nBackup man
 agement.\nInstallation, tuning, and maintenance of system and storage hard
 ware including servers, disk and tape subsystems.\nDeployment and maintena
 nce of technologies that provide access to storage resources such as NFS.\
 nIndependently write, document, and maintain system or storage administrat
 ion tools and scripts for internal use. Research and obtain storage-engine
 ering tools available outside of NREL as appropriate.\nInstall, configure,
  test, and maintain innovative storage-related computing hardware and soft
 ware systems, coordinating with vendors as applicable. Document and report
  problems to the team, and follow issues through to successful problem res
 olution.\nWork with the HPC Operations team in a primarily Linux environme
 nt to identify and provide hardware, software, and support services that e
 nable and advance NREL's mission with data-intensive science and engineeri
 ng goals.\nMake technical recommendations on system software configuration
 , hardware configuration, user policies, security procedures, and administ
 ration procedures.\nMonitor systems and inform operations staff of system 
 events (new features, failures, patches) and the impact of these on the us
 er community. Participate in the Operations Team's Change Management proce
 ss to track changes.\nUse, develop, and deploy monitoring tools to provide
  usage reporting and problem alerting.\nApply all applicable NREL and DOE 
 policies and procedures to ensure the security and reliability of provided
  services.\nShare knowledge with other team members, including training ot
 hers in your areas of expertise.\nYou will be expected to learn and adapt 
 new technologies.\n\nBasic Qualifications:\nBachelor's Degree in Computer 
 Science, Engineering or related and 2 or more years of experience or equiv
 alent relevant education/experience. Or,  Master's Degree in Computer Scie
 nce, Engineering or related or equivalent relevant education/experience. G
 eneral knowledge and application of standards, principles, concepts and te
 chniques in specific field. Some understanding of related IS practices and
  standards. Skilled in analytical techniques and practices, and problem so
 lving. Skilled in written and verbal communication. Intermediate programmi
 ng ability with various computer software programs and information systems
 .\n\nPreferred Skills:\nA solid foundation in Linux systems engineering, s
 torage engineering, and data systems architectures\nExperience with backup
  software, SAN concepts, tape drives, and tape libraries\nExperience with 
 Network Attached Storage solutions\nStorage zoning\nAbility to research an
 d formulate hardware designs and act according to the decisions\nScripting
  languages such as Python, PERL, Bash\n\nAdditional Preferred Skills and B
 ackground:\nTCP/IP Network environment concepts and management of TCP/IP n
 etwork equipment\nSome knowledge of InfiniBand\nExperience with storage cl
 usters such as Ceph, Swift, or Cinder\nSun/Oracle SAMQFS management\nExper
