SUMMARY:Toward Automated Kernel Fusion for the Optimization of Scientific
 Applications
DESCRIPTION:Workshop\n\nToward Automated Kernel Fusion for the Optimizatio
n of Scientific Applications\n\nLamzed-Short, Law, Mallinson, Mudalige, Ja
rvis\n\nWe introduce a novel transformation pass written using LLVM that p
erforms kernel fusion. We demonstrate the correctness and performance of t
he pass on several example programs inspired by scientific applications of
interest. The method achieves up to 4x speedup relative to unfused versio
ns of the programs, and exact performance parity with manually fused versi
ons. In contrast to previous work, it also requires minimal user intervent
ion. Our approach is facilitated by a new loop fusion algorithm capable of
interprocedurally fusing both skewed and unskewed loops in different kern
 els.\n\nRegistration Category: Workshop Reg Pass
